Physical Galleries

Digital Galleries

Just like our physical festival, the digital side of Clash 2022 has many different galleries in a variety of different places. We have galleries of participatory projects on our Facebook page, artist profiles on our Instagram account, video works on our Youtube channel, albums on our Flickr page, a huge range of online events, a virtual world on Sansar designed by Brittany Kurtinecz and our virtual galleries hosted by ArtSteps.

On this page you can find our nine curated festival galleries, each with a separate narrative linked to the overall festival theme of 'Clash.' These Clash narratives are; Pandemic Vs Normality, Life Vs Death, Action Vs The Establishment, Nature Vs Human Vs Tech, Self Vs Others, Reality Vs Dreams & Expectations, War Vs Peace, Noise Vs Silence and Colour Vs Black and White . The works within each Clash narrative not only link to the overall festival theme but also speak with other works in their gallery so that each themed gallery tells a unique story.

Each gallery can be viewed through three main platforms; ArtSteps, Flickr and YouTube. The ArtSteps galleries are embedded - if you are not sure how to navigate these spaces on your device, please scroll to the bottom of the page for a brief introduction. To see video works for a particular narrative please visit Lacuna Festivals YouTube channel by clicking on the icon underneath the embedded gallery. You can also visit the Flickr galleries for each narrative by clicking on the Flickr icon.

Colour Vs Black and White

Technically speaking, black and white are not colours, they are shades – as are all the greys created from a mix of only these two. But, white light contains all the hues on the visible light spectrum and black objects absorb light at all visible wavelengths. A complex clash.

War Vs Peace

Is the world ever at peace? Some of our artists are living in a war zone following the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Others reflect on historical, mythical or forgotten wars.

Noise Vs Silence

Whenever we sit in silence, we inevitably encounter a noise, a sound. Silence is not separate from or other than sound, it is not opposite to it either. Silence is noise and noise is silence.

Nature Vs Humans Vs Tech

The age-old battle of man vs machine has, in more recent times, gained a third member in the battle as nature defends itself against the impact of both.

Action Vs The Establishment

Demonstration are often a result of the underrepresented and oppressed challenging the dominant mainstream values promoted and reinforced by the establishment. Are these clashes changing our world for the better? And what responsibilities do we have as creators?

Life Vs Death

Two opposite ends of a scale, a journey that we are all on. Death is life’s only guarantee. Perhaps that is why death is such a pervasive theme in art? But every so often the death of one thing gives birth to something new.

Pandemic Vs Normality

When we consider life pre and post pandemic, is it largely the same or totally different? How was the pandemic a move away from normality and how did we counter that, cope with and record it?

Self Vs Others

Is this such a clear binary of me and everyone else? How do we relate to ourselves and those around us? Can we ever find a midpoint?

Reality Vs Dreams & Expectations

Fake news, the surreal, the imagined, the hoped for, the longed for, the desired, wanted and dreamed for. Do we have a clear-sighted or a warped view of our own realities?

Using ArtSteps Virtual Gallery Spaces

All of the ArtSteps galleries are embedded on this page, listed by their Clash narratives below. Please be patient as they may take a while to load, particularly the first time you open this page up. (There is a lot of data for your computer process to make the virtual environments work smoothly.) Remember you can also visit the galleries on ArtSteps directly - this may be more effective if you have a slow internet connection or an older device - and you can even download an app to view these galleries on your mobile devices, then you can navigate them using your devices motion sensors.

To visit the galleries on this page, here are some top tips to get you started when using ArtSteps. To view the gallery as a full page click the second button down on the right hand side (a square). Once you are in full page view you can click on the 'i' button for a brief tutorial on navigation around these virtual spaces. You are then free to explore the space, walking around as if you were visiting a real gallery - just click on a piece to view it larger and to get the gallery label for that piece. The label contains information about the artist and artwork such as media, size and a brief artist statement. Once you have viewed the gallery, you can click the heart button under neath the gallery to give us a like and/or click the speech bubble button at the bottom right hand side of the screen to leave us a comment about your experience.
